August 20: Emmett boards train

from Chicago to Mississippi

August 24: Emmett and family visit Bryant's Grocery where Emmett whistles at Carolyn Bryant

August 29: J.W. Milam is arrestedon kidnapping charges

September 2: Emmett's body arrives in Chicago;

New York Times publishes story on Till case

September 6: Emmett is buried at Burr Oak Cemetery

September 15: Jet magazine publishes photos of Emmett's brutalized body

September 23: Milam and Bryant are found not guilty

August 20: Emmett arrives in Winona, MS, to stay with great-uncle Moses Wright in Money, MS

August 28: Emmett is abducted from Moses Wright's home, beaten, and murdered; Roy Bryant is arrested on kidnapping charges

August 31: Emmett's body is found in the Tallahatchie River

September 3-4: Emmett's funeral at Roberts Temple Church of God in Christ is attended by 100,000 people

September 19: Trial of J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant for Emmett's murder begins

September 22: Willie Reed testifies

1956

January 24: Look magazine publishes "confession" from Milam and Bryant for Emmett's murder
