Edited by Monument Lab Senior Curator Yolanda Wisher in collaboration with ETIC's Patrick Weems and Dr. Daphne Chamberlain, Monument Lab's second issue of their Bulletin focuses on the theme of reverence, occasioned by the 70th anniversary of Emmett Till's murder and his mother's decision to fight for justice. The issue features artwork, poetry, interviews, essays, and more from various contributors and ETIC partners.
In her prologue that opens the issue, ETIC Chief Program Officer Dr. Daphne Chamberlain recounts her encounter as a teenager with an issue of Jet magazine that included photos of Emmett Till's brutalized face. "I had questions as only an inquisitive child would," she writes. "'Why did this happen?' I asked myself even after having had all the details laid out in the pages before me. In that moment, tears formed in my eyes, and I realized that—despite this tragedy having happened over three decades earlier—Emmett Till was close to my age. He was in Mississippi like me. He was Black like me."
