Last year we celebrated the opening of the Sumner Courthouse. The restoration and preservation of the historic courthouse was the result of nearly a decade of work from a committed group of citizens from Tallahatchie County, who worked across racial and political lines to begin to tell the truth in our community.

Now that the courthouse is restored we have turned our attention to restoring our community. Through the generosity of the Institute for Museum and Library Services we will be conducting a community storytelling project and will be continuing our internship program. Those interested in participating can apply here.

Our goal is to give a platform for local community members to tell truthful stories about the region with the hope of creating a tapestry of stories about our community. These stories will then be shown at community gathering and to visitors who come to the center. Our hope is that through storytelling and arts we can process the past and imagine new ways to work together in the future.

As usual we want remind our supporters that this work could not be possible without your help. Please contact us if you feel compelled to donate to our cause. We know that Mississippi can be a place of true hospitality, reconciliation and hope.
